The moment you step through the enormous antique double fronted doors onto the stunning handmade Vietnamese tiles, you will feel like you have arrived in one of the world’s most special villas. The view of the gardens, pool and ocean is the next thing that will take your breath away.

The main entrance has a magnificent teak staircase that leads to the first floor, which is the location of 6 of the villa’s bedrooms. The colonial chic main living area is exquisite.

Antique wooden handmade doors adorn massive oval archways which lead to the garden and terrace. There are unique handmade pieces of furniture throughout, such as an extraordinary etched mirror with a beautiful elephant mural that encompasses the villas logo. Gorgeous Persian carpets and beautiful colourful artworks add to the calm sophistication of the sitting room. Much of the furniture and rugs originate from auction houses throughout the world. Local Sri Lankan tradespeople created the beautiful handmade beds and veranda furniture. The views from the main living area over the tropical landscaped gardens and split level swimming pools is extraordinary.

Directly off the main living room is a brightly coloured television room with comfortable sofas and cushions. It is conveniently located in the middle of the villa and has a viewing window so that parents and adults can check on their children without disturbing them. Meda Gedara also has a sophisticated cinema room with a projector and a large screen ideal for adults.

The first floor is home to six of the villa’s bedrooms. There are three master bedrooms, each with King sized four-poster beds located overlooking the gardens and sea. Each of these master bedrooms leads directly onto a beautiful highly polished wooden deck with outdoor chairs. The windows of the three masters fold entirely back so that the lucky occupants can enjoy the natural beauty surrounding them. The transition from indoor living to outdoor living is seamless. At night time, the Meda Gedara team close the doors and set the air-conditioning to the perfect temperature for a perfect night’s sleep. The beds are luxuriously large with reassuringly lovely bed linen.

The three remaining bedrooms in the main house overlook the rear gardens. The Koggala room is ideal for small children, and Dambulla has two triple-height bunk beds and therefore excellent for slightly bigger children. The sixth bedroom has the flexibility of being set up as either a twin room with two singles or a King bed. The last remaining bedroom has its location in the gardens beside the swimming pool. It is a King bedroom with stunning views and ideal for couples who wish to have a little extra privacy and peace. The Lighthouse bedroom leads directly onto a private terrace with a lovely day bed.

Open stone steps lead down to the villa’s beautiful free form swimming pool. The pool has sloping beach-inspired access which is ideal for the youngest and oldest visitors. Comfortable sunbeds and shades surround the swimming pool, and there are fun children’s waterslides and splash pools cleverly hidden by tropical vegetation.

The gardens are a tropical haven with sweet-smelling flowers and birds of all colours. Mature trees and swaying palms dot the lawns offering natural shade from the Sri Lankan sun. The gardens are vast, and home to many fun cricket matches between the villa team and visitors from all around the world over the years. There is a beautiful yoga shala in the gardens, ideal for sunrise and sunset practise (highly qualified local teachers are available on request). The beach has its location at the end of the garden and is a utopia for nature lovers. It is wild, undeveloped and incredibly peaceful.

The Fort bedroom shares a bathroom with Koggala and is ideal for a family with two small children. The Fort has floor to ceiling windows which open onto a beautiful shared wooden deck.

Bedroom 4

‘Unawatuna’ 24 Sq. Metres: Twin Room (2 Singles) can be made up as a King Bed, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, en-suite bathroom with shower. Unawatuna opens onto a garden facing balcony.

Bedroom 5

‘Dambulla’ 17 Sq. Metres: 2 Triple height bunk beds. Each bunk has one Queen bed and two single beds, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, en-suite bathroom with shower. Dambulla opens onto a garden facing balcony.

Bedroom 6

‘Koggala’ 13 Sq. Metres: Twin room (2 singles), air-conditioning, ceiling fan, shared bathroom with The Fort. Koggala is the ideal nursery room.

STAFF

Meda Gedara has a fantastic team of professionals on hand to look after your every need. Lead by Roshan, the Villa Manager, and the team include eight professionals who are incredibly proud to be working in one of Sri Lanka’s best villas. Roshan is also an incredible chef and can help guests in any way they need it. He takes enormous pride in everything he does and has extensive knowledge of the local area.

The housekeeping service is similar to what you might expect in one of the world’s best hotels. Each room is cleaned thoroughly in the morning, and there is a turndown service in the evening which includes turning on the air-conditioning, so your room is the perfect temperature for a great night’s sleep.

Additional services are easily arranged at an extra cost. These include local yoga teachers who come and guide in your ocean-facing yoga shala. Also, there is a brilliant masseur available on call to provide both relaxing and deep tissue massage.

LOCATION DETAILS

Meda Gedara Villa has its location on the southerly most tip of Sri Lanka beside the villas of Polgahamulla which means Coconut Corner. It is between the towns of Tangalle and Matara. It takes approximately three hours to drive from Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) and one hour from the town of Galle.

The beach at the endo of Meda Gedara’s garden is called Polgahamulla Beach. Wild and virtually untouched, it is a nature lover’s paradise. The beach is perfect for morning walks, bird watching and crashing through the big waves.

Just 4 kilometres from Meda Gara is the location for Hiriketiya Bay which is not only safe for swimming, but its also a surfer’s paradise. The area is perfect for sunbathing, enjoying a surfing lesson or relaxing over a refreshing drink and delicious pizza at Mardy’s Place. The beach is natural and undeveloped.

Talalla Bay is another beautiful stretch of beach just 5 kilometres for the villa. It is the perfect choice for anyone looking for gentle waves and soft white sands. It is a wonderfully peaceful beach with lush vegetation and swaying coconut palms.

For food lovers, the area has an excellent selection of local restaurants. These include The Aman Wella, The Aman Galle, The Lighthouse at Galle, The Kingfisher in Unawatuna and Wijiya Beach Restaurant.
